Originally from Menlo Park, California, Charles attended the University of Maryland where he was a member of the Divison IA football team as an inside linebacker. Upon the conclusion of the 2002-2003 Season, he transferred to the University of Georgia, graduating magna cum laude with high honors distinction. Immediately upon graduation, he moved to Houston, TX to pursue a role with BBVACompass as a fixed income analyst within the wealth management group. In 2007, he was recruited to become a part of SunTrust Robinson Humphrey’s financial risk management unit where he served as a fixed income derivatives analyst with a primary focus in interest rate swaps and other rate derivatives. He completed the requirements to use the CFA designation in August 2010 and is a full member of the CFA Institute. At Avalon Advisors, Charles serves as portfolio manager for the fixed income portfolios.
